I've been a vegetarian for 4 years now, shop cruelty free wherever I can, and I definitely don't agree with the dairy industry. So why aren't I Vegan?
People tend to go vegan for three main reasons; for the animals, for the planet, and for their health. The main reason for me would be the animals, the same reason I went veggie, the same reason I only wear cruelty free cosmetics, and am branching out to shop cruelty free in other areas of my life. I have recently been reading up on the environmental effects of veganism and can't say I'm unimpressed. As for my health, I consume far too many chips for lack of dairy to make any notable difference.

For me, I'm just not there yet. I always say to people that if you want to go vegetarian then you have to really want to for your own reasons or you just wont succeed. I don't think I have the right amount of willpower to turn down that slice of chocolate cake, or a Mr Whippy, or the variety of mini pastries at a breakfast buffet! Basically, it all comes down to laziness and convince.
What am I doing instead? Just because I'm not committing to veganism doesn't mean I can't do my bit, I find it much easier to cut out individual foods than everything at once. Last year I cut out eating eggs on their own, started buying dairy free butter, and we never have cows milk in the house! My downfall really is the convenience side, but as veganism becomes more mainstream it's becoming easier to find options out and about, and 9 times out of 10 I'll take the vegan option. I can see my diet progressing to eating vegan at home and not when out of the house, I really am going to take things a step at a time and see where I end up.
